OUR MISSION IS TO:

• Serve as exemplary role models, and to provide education and training to medical students, residents, fellows, and practicing physicians, as well as students and practitioners of other allied health care disciplines, with emphasis on the pathophysiology, diagnosis and treatment of neonatal disease.
• Conduct basic, clinical, and translational research, including the management of the NHLBI Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia Resource facility at the Southwest Foundation for Biomedical Research.
• Provide comprehensive consultation and care as requested by obstetricians, perinatologists, and pediatricians.
• Provide transport to high risk pregnant mothers and newborns in the South Texas region with a multidisciplinary team of physicians, nurse, and respiratory therapists.
• Provide 24-hour, on-site care for premature and critically ill newborns/infants in our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
• Provide comprehensive resuscitation at high risk births.
• Provide long-term follow up of physical growth, cognitive and motor development of premature infants referred to our Premature Infant Development PREMIEre Program staffed by our faculty.
